International Committee for the Training of Personnel

Between November 2006 and June 2008 members of ICOM France, ICOM Italy, ICOM Switzerland and ICTOP worked together on a European frame of reference for the museum professions. Its objectives are to promote the national and international recognition of museum professions and the mobility of museum professionals. We want to take the European discussion on museum professions forward. At the same time, national museum organisations must be encouraged to create and develop their own guidelines for activities in museums. The frame of reference could be of use in this process. You find below the English, French, German and Italien versions of the project. Links will be established to all new translations.

The Gurricula Guidelines are a main document of ICTOP, deeply rooted in the history of this committee from its beginning in 1968. The notes cover the skills, knowledge and abilities needed by the personnel of museums to operate successfully. All museum staff, museum volonteers and outside contractors should at least have a basic knowledge of the meaning and the operation of a museum. The notes can be used to create or to revise museum studies programs in universities and in continuous learning programs.
